Friday, February 10th - CAUTION: UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

So it looks like the Namsun Ice Rink isn't the only one looking to upgrade their facilities. The Cheongju Ice Rink is also set to undergo their own makeover, albeit with the same budget as the doekppokki adjumma has to buy her spicy sauce for Valentine's Day weekend.

At the end of the day, it looks like we've lost the Cheongju Ice Rink for at least March. So our fearless commissioner has asked me to put up a poll in hopes that you lazy pylons will let us know if you're willing to drive to Jeonju (50-60km from Daejeon) to save at least two rounds of games.

Have at it boys! What do you think? Are you willing to put a few extra clicks on that Kia beater and let the Cheongju room salon girls go a couple weekends without food in the name of hockey?

Are you willing to drive to Jeonju in March so we don't lose a couple rounds of Season 9?
 Hells yeah! Start the bus!
Hells no! The local room salon girls will go hungry!
 Whatever...I just want to play.

Friday, February 3rd - Hi, My Name Is...

After a heated debate between me, myself and I (I was outvoted 2-1), some team names were bantered about and are being put forth to the masses for votes on whether or not they should be used this season. I think we can all agree after the Snow White and Tiger Blood debacle of Seaon 8, some fresh ideas were needed.

Without further adieu, I introduce my suggestions for the three teams this season - the Angry Beavers, the Bearded Wonders, the Hockey Gods, the Fightin' Whities and the Peter North Stars. Check out the logos and let me know what you think.

Which three team names should we use for Season 9 (select three answers)?
the Angry Beavers
the Bearded Wonders
the Hockey Gods
Fightin' Whities
the Peter North Stars
Let the captains decide

Time to step up gentleman! About time we drive some traffic to this site. I will expect some debate and friendly banter on Sunday night in the 'Ju for shinny. And if Hoang - or anyone else for that matter - suggests "I Heart Caleb" one more time, I think I'm going to throw up.

Thursday, February 2nd - League Rundown and Fees

SEASON 9 RUNDOWN

The commish has asked me to pass along the following information in case you missed it on the Facebook.com event posting...

We are looking at a 3-team league and have a minimum requirement of 21 skaters to make this happen. Thus, it is crucial that you sign up ASAP. Unless we reach 36 skaters and can make a 4-team league (which is highly unlikely), we will cap sign up at 30 skaters with a maximum of 10 players per team. Also, last season was somewhat short, so the new schedule is attempt to get back to our traditional 9 rounds, plus one semi-final/final round, for a total of 10 rounds. Please note that the playing times vary from week to week. It might be a good idea to mark the times down on that fancy smartphone each of us carries around (except Ed...but I'm sure you can find the day planner option somewhere in that dinosaur 1G phone).

The schedule was put together to account for holidays, to create as many early starting times as possible and have as few back-to-back weeks as possible. However, in some cases it is impossible to accomplish all of these things. So, take a look at the information below and please sign on. And, when you do sign on, please make an effort to attend all the games (Tiger Blood...I'm looking at you!). If you know of players who are new to the city, please add them to the facebook event site or tell them to contact us. Last, we are always looking for people to chip in with league duties, so if you have some spare time or some ideas to improve things, drop us a line.

To sumarize the important points for the "attention-challenged" younger generation:

(a) Season 9 will be a three team league
(b) There will be three, 45-50 minute games per round
(c) Season 9 Team Captains will be Robbie Nemcko, Mike Montgomery, Matt Acheson
(d) Confirmed Goalies - Ed McEntee, Cory Richards, Claude Brisebois

LEAGUE FEES

All players are reminded to bring their league fees on March 3rd. Team captains will be taking care of the money-jersey transaction, so please seek out your fearless leader when you arrive.

Ice time (estimate): 125,000-150,000won
League fund: 25,000won
Jersey deposit: 40,000won

*jersey deposit is refunded at the end of the season

Please Note: Team captains be aware - DO NOT accept any cheques or I.O.U.'s from any of the following deviants...

Wednesday, February 1st - Season 9 Taking Shape

Ajummas and ajoshis...haul out your magkeoli pots and air raid sirens because Season 9 of the DCIHL gets underway in a month's time (Mar. 3rd)! There is already some significant buzz amongst the hockey community as the league is coming up on its 10 season anniversary next year. As was the case last season, all games will be played in Cheongju due to ongoing renovations at the Namsan Ice Rink in Daejeon.

For the uninitiated, the DCIHL is the Daejeon Cheongju Ice Hockey Leage. It has been in existence for a few years now, and has managed to helped expats and Koreans alike by fostering friendships, cultural exchanges and giving expats their ice hockey fix while away from home. The league is recreational, and as such, is open to everyone of all skill levels. If you are interested in taking part in the new season, please contact us.

See you next Sunday night for shinney in the 'Ju!
